Whether you are sending a fax to one location or thousands, BellSouth® Desktop Fax puts more time and convenience directly into your hands. Now you can send and receive computer-generated faxes anywhere in the world directly from your Microsoft®Windows® 95, 98 or NT® PC using your Internet access and BellSouth® Desktop Fax service.

BellSouth® Desktop Fax lets you send faxes to large recipient lists, forward faxes electronically, and distribute documents to a mix of fax devices and e-mail systems — all with more efficiency, clarity and reliability than a stand-alone fax machine.

It works like this:

Send — Just select "Print." BellSouth® Desktop Fax operates as a print driver that uses your Internet access to send the document to our server, then to your recipients.

Confirm — Receive a confirmation in your e-mail box, to be certain that your fax has reached its destination. Also use your Web browser to check the status of your faxes.

Receive — Your fax message arrives as an e-mail attachment. You're in control of your fax, and can be assured that no one has intercepted it from a shared fax machine.

Technical Requirements

To use BellSouth® Desktop Fax, you can either be on a LAN that provides Internet connectivity, or be able to make a dial-up connection to the Internet via an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

In order to use the service, you will also need the following:

  • Microsoft® Windows® 95/98 or Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 (standard version or OEM Service Release 2 or later)
  • An Intel™ 486/66, Pentium® PC or better
  • A TCP/IP connection (direct or dial-up) to the Internet
  • E-mail capabilities, specifically the ability to send electronic mail messages using the TCP/IP protocol from your PC
